Ukraine And Turkey Agree To Strengthen Security In Black Sea Region And Fight Against Terrorism

Ukraine and Turkey jointly agreed to strengthen stability and security in the Black Sea region and the areas bordering the Black Sea, and also to jointly fight against terrorism. In pursuant of this objective, Ukraine and Turkey agreed to implement the Document on measures of strengthening peace and security in the naval sphere in the Black Sea, and also to make use of the potential of the Black Sea naval unit (BLACKSEAFOR). It’s noted in the joint statement that Ukraine and Turkey also agreed to make use of the transit potential of the Black Sea and to develop the transport sector within the framework of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC). Moreover, the two countries have set as an objective to integrate the transport infrastructure of the Black Sea with the Trans-European transport system.Ukraine and Turkey agreed to cooperate in the fight against terrorism, as well as organized crime, illegal circulation of narcotics, illegal migration, and to fight against other challenges and threats. For these purposes, the sides consider it necessary to exchange experience and information, and also close cooperation of the security agencies of the two countries, which are dealing with these problems. The Agreement on creation of the Black Sea group for naval cooperation was signed on 2 April 2001 in Istanbul. The unit was created with the aim of facilitating the strengthening of friendship, good neighboring relations and mutual trust between the states bordering the Black Sea, and also for enhancing peace and stability in the region by way of deepening cooperation and inter-action between the naval forces.
 

Ukraine And Turkey Agree To Expand Tourism And Safeguard Environment
Ukraine and Turkey have agreed to expand tourism and cooperate in the area of safeguarding the environment in the Black Sea region. The President Leonid Kuchma's press service disclosed this while making reference to a joint statement he made with the President of Turkey Ahmet Necdet Sezer. "The sides agree to use the existing potential for expansion of the tourism sector by way of supporting inter-personal contacts, improvement of the tourism infrastructure and facilitating the working out of common projects in the field," it is mentioned in the statement. Ukraine and Turkey also reaffirmed their readiness to cooperate in the area of protecting the environment in the Black Sea. The sides stated their support for the Bucharest process, as well as the 1992 Convention on Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution (Bucharest Convention) and the Black Sea Strategic Action Plan. Besides, Ukraine and Turkey supported the expansion of cooperation in the area of culture and sciences.
 
Ukraine And Turkey Agree To Simplify Procedures For Bilateral Trade
Ukraine and Turkey agreed to create more liberal conditions for the movement of goods, services, and capital between them, primarily by simplifying trading procedures as much as possible. The Ukrainian presidential press service announced this, citing a joint statement issued by the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma and Turkey's President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. "The two sides agree on the need to develop and ease the regime for bilateral trade to the maximum possible level," the statement said. In connection with this, the two sides also agreed to facilitate travel between the two countries. Ukraine and Turkey also said in the joint statement that they agreed to increase bilateral trade and investments as well as to create joint enterprises. Moreover, Ukraine and Turkey stressed the need to diversify their bilateral trade and actively realize joint projects. Turkey also confirmed its support for Ukraine's efforts to secure admission into the World Trade Organization (WTO) and expressed the hope for successful completion of the Ukrainian-Turkish negotiations on Ukraine's entry into the WTO.
